Research for Nursing Practice -- A New On-line Journal
RNP is a new on-line nursing journal dedicated to the dissemination of knowledge generated in the nursing practice setting. RNP is published 10 times per year by Graduate Research LLC, Naja McKenzie RN, MN, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief. One issue only will be published for July - August and for December - January each year. The focus of this journal is to publish nursing research and case studies relevant to, and carried out in, nursing practice settings in a timely, easy-to-read, and accessible manner. The goal is to publish site based, original research about nursing and nursing interventions in a way that is readily understood and useful to practicing nurses.
RNP's sister publication on-line, Graduate Research in Nursing, publishes nursing research by graduate students in nursing. Between these two journals, we hope to disseminate more of the nursing research that is not currently being shared with the world. Nurses from all specialties and practice settings are invited to submit research and other practice related writings. Hospitals with nursing research departments are particularly urged to submit the research completed in their facilities.
In this publication, although the quality of knowledge is important, substance is valued over style and findings over method.
RNP is inviting submissions of original research findings for publication on-line in the following forms:
Submissions should not have been published before nor should they be submitted simultaneously elsewhere. Podium or poster presentations are not considered publication unless an abstract was printed in a set of proceedings. If so, permission to publish the same abstract should be obtained from the publisher of the proceedings.
- Full articles: 10 - 15 pages double spaced, not including references and up to 5 tables or illustrations.
- Research briefs: 3 - 4 pages double spaced, not including references and up to 3 tables or illustrations.
- Case presentations: 1 - 3 pages plus no more than 5 references and no more than one illustration.
- Abstracts: 1 - 2 pages plus no more than 5 references and no illustrations.
Submitted work should conform to the suggested formats outlined on the submission page, if possible. If the suggested format does not fit well with your article, or if you have an article ready in another format, you may submit it and we will consider it anyway, with some editing possible.
To take advantage of the new closeness made possible by the World Wide Web, articles from all parts of the world are welcomed, but must be submitted in English. We look forward to receiving submissions that have relevance to all nurses.
Manuscripts should be written in Word, Word Perfect or text format (Sorry, no Mac format at this time) and should conform to APA style.
Submissions should be sent either in the body of an email, as an attachment (text format), - the least preferred -, or on a 3.5 inch diskette to: Graduate Research LLC, 2917 East Manchester Drive, Tucson, Arizona, 85716.
Hard copy manuscripts (i.e. on paper) will not be accepted for publication and will not be returned to the author. To avoid disappointment, do not send hard copy manuscripts, please.
All authors must sign a Copyright Transfer and Warranty Agreement which must be mailed in hard copy even if the submission is sent by email. A manuscript will not be reviewed unless a copyright transfer has been received.
Along with transfer of copyright, all authors must disclose any interest (commercial or financial) they may have in any product or service that is the subject of their manuscript. They must also disclose the source of any support they have received or will receive for their study, whether financial or material.
To shorten and simplify the publication process, peer review will take place on-line through email and bulletin boards. On-line peer review and feedback will promote interaction over research findings, sharing of findings, - perhaps even data -, and will bring the practical relevance of research into sharper focus for practicing nurses.
Although we maintain and encourage high quality standards and expectations, our focus in RNP is not on the research process itself, as much as on research findings and their usefulness to nurses.
We will publish as many articles as possible in each issue. Authors may be contacted for clarification and editorial changes, but peer review will occur on-line after publication. It is our intention to encourage, not limit the sharing of knowledge to the world of nursing.
